6. Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Dallas Cowboys

2017 Salary: $1,752,116

Where he will sign: Dallas Cowboys

For years, the Dallas Cowboys have been searching far and wide for a pass rusher who can consistently get after opposing quarterbacks. Well, based on what we’ve seen in 2017, Demarcus Lawrence looks like the answer to their problems.

So why would they let him leave via free agency? I know there are some concerns about his character and off-field issues, but it’s likely a risk the Cowboys are willing to take if it yields them double-digit sacks on an annual basis.

Plus, it’s not like Dallas has a ton of sack production to fall back on if Lawrence leaves. David Irving has been solid this season, but has his own off-field problems. Same with Randy Gregory, who may never return to the NFL at this pace. Rookie Taco Charlton has been unspectacular, and Charles Tapper can’t seem to stay healthy.

Lawrence is the Cowboys’ best bet at a consistent pass-rushing threat. As long as they’re confident he can stay healthy and out of trouble, rewarding him with a huge contract or franchise tagging him seems like the most likely courses of action in the coming months.
