The New York Giants have stunk in 2017, but they can beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason by poaching some of their valuable pieces.
Outside of a Week 13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, it has been an excellent time for the Philadelphia Eagles. Before the loss, Philly was on a nine-game win streak and had the best record in the NFL. Even though it seems like the Eagles season is over because they lost just their second game of the season, they still sit at 10-2 and control their destiny for the playoffs.
Oddly enough, the Eagles weren’t supposed to be the best team in the NFC East. Many, including myself, picked the New York Giants to win the East. However, it has an awful year for the Big Blue, and it has led to them firing head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese. Both of these moves were expected, especially after the benching of Eli Manning.
New York obviously needs to hire new coaches and a new general manager. Philadelphia beat New York earlier in the year and will likely beat them again when they play in Week 15. Eagles fans have been having a good laugh at the expense of the Giants, but they should start to worry more than laugh.
It is not crazy to think that current Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel, Joe Douglas, is on a short list for the Giants vacant GM position. Douglas has shown what he brings to the table in Philadelphia and is primed to become one of the best GMs in football. Howie Roseman is the man in Philly, so it will be hard to get Douglas to stay.
With that in mind, and going off the idea that Douglas joins the Giants as the GM, it gets even scarier for the Eagles. What if Douglas, fresh off of his new promotion, gives two Eagles coaches a new promotion. Call me crazy, but realistically Douglas could covet defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to be the new head coach of the Giants. Both Douglas and Schwartz have worked together now and seem to have the same concepts in mind.
Then, fresh off of his promotion, what if Schwartz wants Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo to be his offensive coordinator? This would be a genius plan by the Giants in my opinion. They would get three awesome football guys to help their team while also hurting the Eagles in a big way.
Schwartz has led one of the best defenses in the NFL this season. He failed as a head coach in Detroit, but the Lions set him up for failure. New York has a great defense, and he would be the perfect guy to lead them. Add in that they need to groom a young quarterback and you can see that DeFilippo fits as well. He is one of those coaches that gets raves reviews whenever someone talks about him, and he has done wonders with Carson Wentz this offseason.

If the Giants were able to lock this trio in, they would be one step closer to getting back on track. The combination of Douglas, Schwartz, and DeFilippo would be a dangerous one in the NFL. And even though the Giants season is lost, they would beat the Eagles in the offseason by poaching all three of those guys.
