2018 NFL Draft: Chicago Bears 7-round mock draft in early December
Round 4, Pick 108: Geron Christian, OT, Louisville
The offensive line is crucial in Trubisky’s development. At times they do a good job, but at others they look lost.
One of the mind-boggling troubles of the line is the penalties, especially from the tackle spots. Charles Leno, who recently signed a nice extension, ranks second in the number of penalties committed on the line. Bobbie Massie, who has an out after the season, ranks sixth. They combined for 14 penalties this season. Putting the offense in long situations hurts whatever plan the coaches have. Add to that the fact that the most likely play called is a run and that puts the offense in a hole.
The 6-6, 320-pound Christian is a powerful tackle. He bench presses 425 pounds, showing his great strength. He started every game at Louisville from the moment he got there. Also, he is an Academic All-ACC, showing his intelligence.
With Christian blocking his blind side, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson won the 2016 Heisman Trophy. Also, the Louisville offense was a top-ten offense the last two seasons, averaging over 530 yards per game. That doesn’t happen without good line play.
Christian is also athletic. He played basketball in high school so he has good foot movement. His good feet allow him to get to the second level quickly and block downfield for the running back. He could handle a quick pass rusher with his movement. Christian adds a good offensive lineman who can help protect Trubisky.
