Round 6, Pick 185: Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State

As I mentioned earlier, the Chicago Bears are desperate at wide receiver. Adding a second receiver couldn’t hurt, right? Speed kills and Parris Campbell has a lot of it. He’ll never be a No. 1 receiver, but put him in as the speed burner who stretches the defense and he could succeed.

The folks at Ohio State keep waiting for Campbell’s breakout season. He has great speed, agility, and elusive moves to make him successful. Also, he hands strong hands and can fight for the ball. The problem is he hasn’t been able to put it all together yet. He may be one of those players who figure it out at the higher level. His tools will definitely make pro scouts take a chance on him. It’ll be his job to get the team to keep him.

Campbell played running back in high school so he can play a hybrid position much like Percy Harvin did. He can use his vision to find holes and once he gets downfield watch out. Another way Campbell helps is on special teams. He averages 30.4 yards per kickoff return. It’ll be nice to see the offense take the ball beyond the 25-yard line on kickoffs for a change.

At the very least, Campbell can be a Swiss army knife player for the Bears. They can have him go deep, opening things up underneath. Also, they can have him run out of the backfield. Finally, he can help the offense start off in good field position with a good return. Considering the holes the team has, Campbell can help plug up some of those holes.
