Doug Marrone should be given credit for keeping his young Jacksonville Jaguars cool, throughout the meltdown, in Sunday’s game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars faced the Seattle Seahawks in another must-win game. Jacksonville needed to make a statement by winning. Many thought the game would be close, but nobody expected how the game would end. Credit goes to Doug Marrone for keeping the cool.

With triple-zeroes in sight, the Jaguars defense stopped the Seahawks on fourth down, but needed to run out the rest of the game clock. Leonard Fournette picked up the first down, which meant Jacksonville would win the game. The Jaguars offense lined up for victory formation. The meltdown began on the snap.

Gene Frenette of jacksonville.com reported on the events that followed:

"This nonsense began when Bennett, …continued to try and dive at the lower leg of Jaguars’ center Brandon Linder after a kneel-down play was over…his action triggered chirping/fighting on both sides, which first led to Richardson being ejected for throwing a punch at Linder and running back Leonard Fournette, also penalized for unnecessary roughness."

The Jaguars coach took control of the situation. Cam Robinson was visibly upset because of the melee. Marrone took control of the sideline and confronted Robinson. Whatever he said to Robinson seemed to work because he calmed down. However, Seattle wasn’t finished yet.

Frenette continued on more shenanigans:

"After the next kneel-down snap, Jefferson drew a flag for the same infraction and was disqualified, causing Seahawks coach Pete Carroll to enter the field as a peacemaker and drawing a penalty."

At this point, there could have been a bench clearing brawl. Emotions were running very high on the field and in the stands. Jefferson was serenaded with debris as he left the field via security. Blake Bortles took the final snap and the game was over. The teams met and shook hands at mid field. No further incidents happened.

Remember the Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Green fight? Ramsey was ejected from the game, but not suspended by the NFL. Marrone spoke to Ramsey about the incident and discussed how actions affect the team.

Marrone keeps the Jaguars focused. In his post-game speeches, he keeps reminding the team to play the next game. After Sunday’s game, he mentioned how other teams may try to get them off track. It is very apparent that he is captain of the ship.

The head coach has instilled a sense of pride and direction for the Jaguars. He is getting the great performances this season by the individuals which comprise the total team effort. In one speech, he says that the guys are playing for two names, the one on the back of the jersey and the one that unites them all — Jaguars!
