No. 3 Need: Franchise Left Tackle

Ereck Flowers just doesn’t work at left tackle for the Giants. Though he’s improved and has been playing perhaps the best football of his career in the latter half of the 2017 season, there was really only one direction for him to go from where he started. Thus, it may be prudent to move him to the right side and draft a franchise left tackle for this team moving forward.

No matter how many passes you see in a game, you will always win football games in the trenches. If you can run the ball, stop the run, protect the quarterback and attack the quarterback, you will win most games. It all starts up front on offense, and it starts with the offensive tackles protecting the edge, particularly the left tackle who is in charge of the blind side of his quarterback.

The tackle position is top heavy, but some may slip through the cracks. There are good to great offensive tackles in this draft at the beginning of each round. Since the Giants select early in every round, they will have an opportunity to take a franchise left tackle, and have Flowers move to the right side in 2018. The Giants can’t allow this one to slip away yet again. They need to get it right, because it’s impossible for a franchise quarterback to win football games from his back.
