QB Eli Manning

It’s time for this ship to sail.

Everything has come apart in New York, and Eli Manning was right at the center of the madness. The franchise disgraced him in the process, doing damage that seems irreparable at this point in time. Letting Manning move on would be the right direction for this team.

That doesn’t mean they won’t try to mend the wound, though. With Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese gone, the higher-ups will attempt to sell Manning on a new coaching staff and front office. They’ll assure him that he’ll be the starter until the day he retires. As much history as he has with this franchise, though, a parting of ways seems like the best option.

They could simply release him, allowing him to sign wherever he’d like. Unfortunately, that would create $12.4 million in dead cap space. That’s too big a hit to take for this club right now. So they seek out a trade with one of the many franchises in need of a starting-caliber quarterback.

Whether it’s the Jacksonville Jaguars (Tom Coughlin would love that), Denver Broncos or New York Jets, Manning deserves a change of scenery. I think he’s done enough throughout his career (and for this team) to earn that much respect from the Giants. Although in the end, it’s essentially up to him since he has the no-trade clause that’ll need to be waived.

It’s been an ugly few months flooded with drama. As part of the house cleaning this franchise is sure to undergo, the departure of Manning (one way or another) will be one of the key pieces to the puzzle.
