What better gift to receive on Christmas Eve than a AFC East battle that could be far more intriguing than many people would give it credit for? That’s exactly what will be in store in Week 16 at Gillette Stadium as the New England Patriots, current occupants of the top seed in the conference, welcome the Buffalo Bills to town.
The Bills may have had the strangest season of any team in the NFL thus far. Despite being in the playoff race for the entirety of the campaign, it’s hard not to look back at benching Tyrod Taylor in the middle of the season as a curiously bad decision. That put them behind the 8-ball in a bad way, and now they’re clawing to stay relevant in terms of the postseason.
As for the Patriots, they’re coming off a monster (albeit controversial) win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week and will look to ride that momentum forward. Tom Brady really is a modern marvel as he’s still getting it done at an MVP-caliber level. However, what could be more critical is the defense finding a way to contain Taylor and to slow down LeSean McCoy, who’s been on a tear as of late.
