New York Jets: 7-Round 2018 mock draft in late December
Bilal Powell is 29 years old, and the Jets may need to start looking for his replacement. The Jets will also likely cut Matt Forte, because he’s not worth the $4 million he will get paid next season, and they can save $3 million if they cut him. Enter Josh Adams.
Adams is a power back with burst. He doesn’t have consistent straight-line speed, but he can accelerate and get by linebackers and defensive back after absorbing contact early. According to 33trucking.com, Adams has 5.5 yards per carry after contact (which ranks first in the country), 948 total yards after contact (which, if were his total yardage would rank him 42nd in the nation), and 86.2 yards per game after contact. He also has seven runs of 60+ yards and four of 70+ yards.
In addition to all of that his 1,337 yards rank him 11th in the country, and that’s despite sitting out 13 quarters and only 17 carries in the fourth quarter all season. Adams isn’t a typical power back. He has a good combination of speed and power. He would make a perfect complimentary back with Elijah McGuire. They could be a thunder and lightning combination for the Jets moving forward.
