With more and more teams playing more 11 personnel (one running back and one tight end), the slot receiver becomes more and more vital. The Jets have receivers for the outside, but they’re not suited to play the slot, because the routes are different and must me more precise.

Renfrow has experience in the slot in college, and has had a lot of success there at Clemson. He is quick and understands the route concepts from the slot very well. Renfrow can provide the Jets a weapon like Julian Edelman of the Patriots.

Even though he’s a little small (5-11, 180 pounds) for an NFL receiver, he understands defenses and will provide the Jets with sure hands in the middle of the field. According to Pro Football Focus Elite, he was targeted 64 times, and 49 of the balls were catchable. He caught all 49 catchable balls. He was one of only eight receivers in the country to have a drop rate of 0 percent based on PFF Elite’s measure.

Pro Football Focus Elite also has him at 1.64 yards per route run, and that would rank him 11th among slot receivers in the NFL in 2017. So, by any measure, he will be a successful slot receiver in the NFL.
