At least since the days of Joe Namath, the Jets have had Vinny Testaverde and Brett Favre. When it comes to fullback, the Jets have not been so lucky. In fact, this season, the Jets had to convert a defensive end who hadn’t played the position in a while to fullback, Lawrence Thomas.

Frankly the Jets haven’t had a good running back since the turn of the millennium. You have to go back to the days of Richie Anderson to look at when the Jets actually had a good lead blocker in the backfield. Flowers is undoubtedly one of the best fullbacks in the country, but because NFL offenses use a lot more 11 and 12 personnel, the I-formation and fullbacks are not used very often.

As a result, Flowers will fall to late on Day 3, even though he’s a good lead blocker. With 40 yards by Rodney Anderson in the Rose Bowl, the Sooners will have a 1,000-yard rusher for the fourth consecutive season behind Flowers, and he would provide them with a good short-yardage and pass catching weapon. He has four rushing touchdowns this season, and he also has four receiving touchdowns in each of the last three seasons.
