The Green Bay Packers have had an up-and-down season headlined by the Aaron Rodgers injury. Davante Adams have steady production all year though.

On Friday, it was announced that Davante Adams signed a four-year extension with the Green Bay Packers. Getting paid seemed to be a certainty for Adams this offseason. The Packers seemed to recognize that, and made sure to lock him up (for $58 million) before he even hit free agency. The hefty price tag was well deserved though.

After two up-and-down seasons to start his career, Adams broke out in a major way last season. This year, he would need to prove it wasn’t a fluke if he wanted to get that big paycheck. Despite shaky-at-best quarterback play, that’s exactly what Adams has done. The 25-year old has 74 receptions for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns this year.

While those numbers are slightly less than last year, he’s only played in 14 games and obviously done so without Rodgers for the most part. With those numbers, the case for team MVP seems to be locked up for Adams. It’s even more obvious when you consider Rodgers wasn’t the only injury the Packers offense suffered in 2017.

The line was banged up all year, and the running backs were constantly shuffling. The Martellus Bennett situation was a disaster, while Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb simply didn’t look the same without Rodgers.

While the defense suffered injuries as well, there’s no comparison with the offense. Especially when you consider they lost their superstar in Rodgers. It was Adams that helped keep the offense a threat, and gave the Packers a fighting chance without their leader.

Davante Adams strong year helped prove that 2016 was not a fluke. It also led to my vote for team MVP (which means nothing) going to him and a massive new pay day. I’ll leave it up to Adams to decide what means more to him. Let’s be honest though, it’s probably my vote.
