Chargers Special Teams

If we’re being honest, the Chargers kicking situation in 2017 was a complete disaster. Not only did special teams failures over the first four weeks cost them multiple victories, but it ultimately cost them a chance to make the AFC Playoffs this season. If you’re a Bolts fan looking for somebody to blame, then look no further than this unit.

Unlike most teams in the NFL, the Chargers actually had four different players kick a field goal for them in 2017 and no, it wasn’t because guys kept getting hurt. It was solely because each guy couldn’t make a field goal when it mattered the most.

According to Pro Football Refernce, Younghoe Koo, Nick Novak, Travis Coons and Nick Rose were the four kickers to suit up for the Bolts this year, all combining to make 20 out of 30 total field goal attempts. In case you don’t have a calculator next to you, that equates to a terrible 66.7 percent.

I don’t know how anyone can expect to win close football games when you’re kicking team is making a little over half of their attempts. Not only does that take the life out of a team, it can completely derail a team’s season, as Bolts fans learned in 2017.
