Chicago Bears: Month-by-month 2017 season review
December (2-3 record)
December started out much like November. The Bears faced the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners just traded for Jimmy Garoppolo and this was his first start. He had a good game, but it was former Bears kicker Robbie Gould who stole the show. The Bears scratched out two touchdowns (one on special teams) and the defense held the Niners to zero touchdowns. The problem was that San Francisco got FIVE field goals from Gould to beat the Bears 15-14.
After that loss, the Bears were losers of five games in a row and had a record of 3-9. This was ugly.
The team fought back, however. They won two of their last four games. Of course, it helped that both of those victories came against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals were struggling (even though at 5-8 still had a better record than the Bears) and the Browns tried to win their first game.
The two losses the Bears suffered were against division rivals, the Lions and the Vikings. Those two losses cemented a winless season in their division. This was the first time since the NFC North was created in 2002 that the Bears went winless.

All of this created a 5-11 season and it cost Fox his job. Now the Bears hit the offseason looking for a new head coach. Also, Pace needs to make big decisions on players. There are a lot of players with outs after this season so there might be some surprises.
Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully, Pace and the Bears make the right choices and the Bears surprise people in 2018.
