Jacksonville Jaguars: Jalen Ramsey earns selection to PFF All-Pro team
By Larry Brake
Jalen Ramsey was the only Jacksonville Jaguars player to earn first team All-Pro status by Pro Football Focus.
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense had a magical 2017 season due to their dominating performances. What started in week one carried the Jaguars into the playoffs. As the post-season accolades begin to roll in, expect the Jaguars to have their fair share of honors.
In December, the 2018 Pro Bowl rosters were announced. Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye were selected as AFC cornerbacks. Calais Campbell and Malik Jackson were selected in their positions for the AFC.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) released their All-Pro team. According to their website:
"Each year, PFF brings you a unique All-Pro team based on the insights derived from watching and grading every player on every play of the NFL season."
For PFF’s All-Pro teams, Campbell was not graded high enough to be a first teamer. Really, Campbell did not score high enough? Campbell recorded 14.5 sacks due to his relentless pressure. He had more sacks, forced fumbles and touchdowns that the two first teamers.
PFF Edge graded Campbell as the fourth best edge rusher with a grade of 93.2. Seems like PFF missed something while grading him. While Campbell seems awfully low at fourth, Yannick Ngakoue is really snubbed.
Ngakoue had 12 sacks, led the NFL in forced fumbles with six and returned one for a touchdown. Yet, PFF graded Ngakoue as the 18th best edge rusher with a grade of 86.2. Also, he makes big plays especially when the team needs a lift.
A.J. Bouye earned second team status like Campbell. Bouye earned a grade of 90.4 at cornerback from PFF Edge. However, PFF listed Bouye as allowing the lowest passer rating when targeted. Add to that, he had six interceptions for the season. Seems like PFF would name their top shutdown corner on the first team.
Ramsey is on PFF’s first team at cornerback. Ramsey graded out at 92.2 for the season. According to PFF:
"Jacksonville’s Jalen Ramsey has developed into one of the game’s most fearsome cornerbacks already in just his second year in the league. Ramsey has as much athletic talent as any player in football, and this season we saw him put it all together, with the terrifying prospect that he may not be done developing still hanging over the rest of the league."

Ramsey intercepted four passes but not many passes came his way. He is definitely the face of the defense but there are others too. PFF honored three, but several more were worthy.
