Prince Amukamara

Amukamara would be the replacement for a declining Morris Claiborne. Claiborne has had a rough year in coverage. He allowed a passer rating of 95.9 against him, and he allowed 128 yards after the catch, which was the second-most on the team.

Amukamara seems to have the arrow pointing up, in terms of production, and even though he’s younger, Claiborne’s arrow is either steady or heading down. Amukamara is better in every metric you can think of. He allows catches at a lower rate, has a lower passer rating against, and according to Pro Football Focus Elite, Claiborne allows catches more frequently in coverage. Amukamara allows a catch on average every 17.5 coverage snaps, while Claiborne allows one every 11.3 coverage snaps.

Even though he’s going to be 29 by the start of the 2018 season, Amukamara is worth the investment by the Jets. The Jets need a player on their team that can take away a receiver. Amukamara hasn’t had an interception since 2015, but that’s ok. What the Jets need is a guy who can cover and allow the pass rushers time to get to the quarterback. They have two good safeties who can cover. Now they need the outside taken care of, and Amukamara can provide them with that.
