New York Jets: 2018 Offseason predictions through the draft
Let the offensive line overhaul continue. With this pick the Jets add yet another SEC offensive lineman, and rightfully so. This time he’s from the University of Alabama. The Tide rolled over people, as they had 5.8 yards per carry and 255.8 yards per game. So, adding an Alabama offensive lineman makes sense. Also adding a versatile one makes even more sense.
The addition of Pierschbacher will give the Jets two offensive linemen that can play guard or center, and that’s very valuable. According to Football Outsiders, the Jets ranked 29th in the NFL in runs up the middle despite having 42 percent of their carries there. Adding a road grader like Pierschbacher in the middle will certainly help that.
The Jets also had an adjusted sack rate (per Football Outsiders) of 8.6 percent. Pro Football Focus Elite gave Pierschbacher a Pass Blocking Efficiency rating of 98 out of 100, allowing only seven total pressures (two sacks, three QB hits, and two hurries) during the regular season. When you put the whole package together, and with the Jets drafting a guard earlier, now they have interchangeable guards for the right and left side. Their interior offensive line is set for a long time.
