Buster Skrine

Skrine is going to cost the Jets $8.5 million next season. His production is decent for that price tag. However the trouble he causes on the field isn’t worth it. He has an interception and a fumble recovery. Additionally, he has 51 tackles, nine passes defensed, and a sack. That said, he racked up 10 penalties for 100 yards this season, and that negates the good he had done, making him either a net negative or, at best, a break-even player.

According to Football Database, he is one of only 11 NFL players in 2017 to have at least 10 penalties. He is also one of nine to have 100+ penalty yards, and only one other player is on the list for both 10+ penalties and 100+ yards.

According to Pro Football Focus Elite, he has also allowed a passer rating of 98.6 against him along with 249 yards after catch (11th most in the NFL). He is no longer worth the money. It would be irresponsible of the Jets to keep a player who’s shown a lack of discipline at times.

The Jets need to move on, even though it creates depth problems at the position. They can find his replacement in the draft
