As Kirk Cousins enters free agency for the third consecutive season, he met with fans on Friday to give his thoughts on the Washington Redskins and his future.
Could Kirk Cousins’ career with the Washington Redskins be over? After six years — and an unprecedented two franchise tags — with the Redskins, Cousins is, presumably, about to enter free agency again. Washington can franchise him again, however, that would be at the crippling cost of $34.5 million for one season. That’s just not feasible.
The Redskins have another option, too. They could place the transition tag on Cousins, which would be at a one-year cost of $28 million. That’s a bit more manageable, but this situation needs a resolution for all parties involved. On Friday, Cousins met with fans in a session orchestrated by 106.7 The Fan and hosts Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier. The station sold tickets to fans with all proceeds going to the DC Dream Center, Cousins’ preferred charity of choice for the event.
The event, promoted by the station as an opportunity for fans to ask Cousins anything they wanted. And the hosts also promised not to take it easy on Cousins, asking him all the tough questions about his past, present and possible future in the nation’s capital.
Here are five takeaways from Cousins’ meet-and-greet session with the fans on Friday afternoon.
