The Buffalo Bills need to move up in the 2018 NFL Draft in order to get one of the top quarterbacks to fix their main issue in 2018.

When it comes to the offensive side of the ball, the issue with the Buffalo Bills was at quarterback. When you look analytically at the performance of Tyrod Taylor, there’s nothing great about his performance in 2017.

Football Outsiders uses a metric call DVOA to measure the performance of a player versus an average player in the same situation. If a player’s DVOA is negative, an average player would perform better. According to them, Taylor’s DVOA was -6.7 percent.

Other metrics used by Pro Football Focus Elite show that Taylor is an average-at-best quarterback. In their metrics of adjusted completion percentage (15th), deep passing (24th), and passing with a clean pocket (18th), he was ok, and according to them, he had the most time from snap to throw of anyone in the NFL.

The Bills actually have back-to-back picks in the NFL Draft. They have the Chiefs pick at No. 22 and their own at No. 21. They have the ammunition to move up in the draft to get the quarterback they need, and they should.

Even from a traditional stats standpoint, Taylor’s season couldn’t be described as better than average. He completed 62.9 percent of his passes and he only had four interceptions, which is good. However, he only threw 14 touchdowns and had less that 3,000 yards. Even if you extrapolate that 16 starts, it’s still not good enough.

Taylor isn’t a bad quarterback. He’s just not good enough to be an NFL starter. He can win you games, but he can’t make big throws when you need him to. They need an upgrade at the position, and this quarterback class is said to be great. So, they should move up to get one.
