Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Key players to beating Falcons in Divisional Round
By Randy Gurzi
The Philadelphia Eagles host the Atlanta Falcons in the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs. Here are three key players for Philly if they hope to win.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in unfamiliar territory as they’re the No. 1 seed in the 2018 NFC Playoffs, yet they’re underdogs at home against the six-seed Atlanta Falcons. While the Falcons did make it to the Super Bowl a season ago, that has little to do with them being favored. Instead, it’s the loss of star quarterback Carson Wentz, who went down with a torn ACL late in the year.
The Eagles now have to rely on backup quarterback Nick Foles, who put some up and down tape out there down the stretch for Philly. They still have to feel better than most teams would about sending a reserve out there in the post season, as Foles at least has plenty of NFL experience as a starter and even has one post season start under his belt.
Even if Wentz were suiting up though, the Eagles would be in for a fight. The Falcons played exceptionally well in the Wild Card Round, holding the high-flying Los Angeles Rams offense to just 13 points. A top-10 ranked defense was the key to their success that week, and the Eagles will have their hands full for sure.
It doesn’t mean the task is impossible, but they need some key players to step up. Here is a look at three guys they will need to lean heavily on to get a win on Saturday.
