An in-depth look at the rookie season of Mitchell Trubisky and what’s next for the most important player on the Chicago Bears.
Mitchell Trubisky is the future for the Chicago Bears. He has immense talent and now has the head coach in Matt Nagy who can hopefully help him reach his full potential. When you watch Trubisky on film, you can see him flash his Pro Bowl potential quite often. He still has a lot to learn about the NFL game, and now he has the task of learning his second playbook already in his career.
As we all know, Trubisky made his first start of the season in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings and made a total of 12 starts in his rookie season. His final statistics were not eye-popping (59.4 percent completion rate, 2,193 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions), yet he was not put in a position to succeed with John Fox and Dowell Loggains running the show. With a whole offseason to improve and by taking all of the first-team reps at OTAs and training camp, it’s expected Trubisky will take a significant step forward in his second season.
Ryan Pace made a significant investment in the former North Carolina Tar Heel, making a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to move up from the third-overall pick in the NFL Draft to the second. Pace’s future with the team is tied directly to how Trubisky performs, and by hiring Nagy as head coach, Pace has gone “all-in” on the quarterback.
So, how did the young quarterback do in his rookie season? Let’s take a deep dive into Trubisky’s 2017 season and analyze the bad, the good, and where he goes from here.
