Jaguars vs. Steelers: Highlights, game tracker from Divisional Round
By Randy Gurzi
The Jacksonville Jaguars faced the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Jan. 14 in the Divisional Round of the 2018 NFL Playoffs. Here are highlights from the game.
It wasn’t an exciting game by any stretch, but the Jacksonville Jaguars won a defensive battle in the Wild Card Round of the 2018 NFL Playoffs. They need to make no apologies for how they won, but they will need more offense as they travel north to play the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field for the Divisional Round.
For all those wondering if the Jags hit-you-in-the-mouth style would work against the vaunted Steelers, they answered that question right away. Not only did Leonard Fournette and Jacksonville march down the field for a touchdown to start the game, but they soon-after picked off Ben Roethlisberger and set up another touchdown for the rookie running back. That gave them an early, shocking 14-0 lead over the home team.
It didn’t stop there either as the game wore on into the second quarter. Jacksonville was able to add another touchdown to make it 21-0 in favor of the Jaguars. That’s when Big Ben and the Steelers offense finally showed a little life, much thanks to Antonio Brown and a terrific one-handed snag for the score. However, they just traded scores in the second quarter with the visitors. Ultimately, the Jaguars took a 28-14 lead into the locker room at halftime, to the surprise of many.
However, Blake Bortles and the Jags offense was stifled in the third quarter, allowing Pittsburgh to chip away at the lead. A touchdown in the period pulled the Steelers within one score going into the final 15 minutes of regulation and the drama was just getting started.
When it mattered most, though, Bortles and the Jaguars offense again found life at the end of the game. Thanks largely to a long grab by Keelan Cole and a big play by T.J. Yeldon, the Jags were able to make two big drives and find the end zone twice, matching the Steelers.
The biggest series of the game, though, came after Le’Veon Bell found the end zone on a lateral to pull the Steelers back within one touchdown. That’s when Chris Boswell put forth a horrid effort on an onside kick that was recovered by Jacksonville. Though they failed to get the first down, they were able to get into field goal range. Josh Lambo came out and was icy as he split the uprights for three, making it 45-35 and essentially clinching the monster win for Jacksonville — even if Pittsburgh scored once more at the end of regulation when it didn’t matter.

Though the Jaguars were able to get the best of the Steelers the first time around, things change. These teams had shown pretty high levels of variance all year. Thus, that led them to this highly intriguing matchup.
