Round 4: Dimitri Flowers, FB, Oklahoma

Here in the fourth round, Atlanta has the opportunity to draft one of my favorite football players coming out this April: Dimitri Flowers. Trust me, I’ve been a huge fan of what Derrick Coleman has brought to the Falcons this year, but it’s clear for this team to continue moving forward, they’ll need a fullback who can be used in multiple parts of this offense.

It’s amazing how much a fullback can make on a team’s running back, as Falcons fans experienced in 2017 with the loss of Patrick DiMarco. The former Falcons lead-blocker not only paved some clear pathways for Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman, but he was a key part of the team’s passing game as well.

Having a fullback who can catch the football, plus provide great run-blocking is something Atlanta desperately missed in 2017. Still, who knows if Steve Sarkisian would’ve actually used him that way.

I’ve seen a lot of Falcons fans looking at the team taking Jaylen Samuels from NC State, but he may not be available by the time the fourth round rolls around. Sure, Atlanta’s front-office could use a higher pick to get him, but this team would be better off continuing to build their ever-improving defense.
