The Giants had so many issues in 2017 that one key element of the game went unnoticed. They were terrible in the kicking game. It wasn’t just field goal kicking, though. Their kickoffs were just as bad.

It could be the case of their kicker being a rookie, or it may just be that he’s a bad kicker. No matter what the case is, it’s time for the Giants to find a new one. Their kicker, Aldrick Rosas was one of the worst kickers in the NFL. 25 kickers had 50+ kickoffs in 2017, and he ranked 21st in touchback percentage. 20 kickers attempted 25+ field goals in 2017, and Rosas was dead last in field goal percentage. If the season was better overall for the Giants, this wouldn’t have gone largely unnoticed.

Pineiro has made 88.4 percent of his field goals at Florida. In addition to that, he had 39 touchbacks for an touchback percentage of 78 percent. That’s good for the field position game. Say what you will about kickers, but they’re an important component of the game of football. You need a guy who can be reliable when he trots out there for field goals and someone who can have an opponent start with the ball at the 25-yard line routinely.
