There’s no option at left tackle. The Giants must move on from Ereck Flowers, not as an offensive lineman, but just on the left side. In 2018, Flowers should be moved to right tackle, and that would make room for the franchise left tackle Orlando Brown.

Quarterback is undoubtedly the most important skill position player in the NFL, because he touches the ball the most often. The most important player on the offensive line, though, is left tackle. He protects the quarterback from rushers he can’t see when he’s dropping back to pass. Even though Zac Wassink of NFL Spin Zone wrote this:

"Cutting or trading Flowers would indicate no individual, regardless of money owed to him, status or history, is guaranteed anything as of March. It’s a move that should be made unless Flowers impresses Gettleman over the next two months."

The move that needs to be made is drafting Brown and moving Flowers to the right side. Brown had some struggles with athletic lineman in pass protection, but that’s more of an issue that can be worked out if the Giants hire the right offensive line coach, and he’s a road grader in run blocking. He’s good enough to settle in at left tackle for the foreseeable future.
