The Jacksonville Jaguars faced the New England Patriots in the 2018 AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 21. Here are the highlights from the game.
Playing in the AFC Championship Game is a familiar spot for the New England Patriots. Not only are they the defending Super Bowl Champions, but they’ve won five titles in the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era. With that being said, their matchup on Sunday in the 2018 conference title game was not one many expected as they welcomed the Jacksonville Jaguars to Foxborough.
Blake Bortles has long been a running joke as the starting quarterback for the Jaguars. Whether or not they label him as a “bust”, “buffoon” or “generally awful NFL quarterback”, he’s just not been great. However, this is a team that has built a dangerous defense that can win them games. When you then throw in rookie running back Leonard Fournette for the offense, they have finally reached a new level.
As for the Patriots, Brady and the offense are still lethal. There are a bevy of running backs headlined by Dion Lewis and James White still that can make noise. And though Julian Edelman has been out most of the season due to injury, Rob Gronkowski is still around and the weapons have continued to step up.
Thus, this should be a classic Offense vs. Defense matchup in the 2018 AFC Championship. Then again, it’s also the big-bad of the NFL in the Patriots welcoming the up-and-coming Jaguars to the show.
