Buffalo Bills: 2018 Offseason predictions through the draft
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams was drafted by the Bills in 2006, and even though he’s 36, he’s still a viable option at defensive tackle for this defense. Having the presence of Williams can only help the growth and maturation of Shaq Lawson, who doubled his sack total from 2016 in 2017.
Having Williams on the front line means the Bills defensive front becomes a pick-your-poison front four. If opponents double Williams, it would leave the up-and-coming young player open for sacks, and if not, Williams may terrorize the quarterback.
Williams did make a little more than $7.4 million in 2017. The Bills will have to work incentives into the deal to make it work, because he will be 35 by the end of the season, and his play will have to deteriorate at some point.
Williams deserves to stay with the Bills, though. He could’ve left for greener pastures at any point, and it would’ve been warranted. However, he’s played his butt off for this team, and stuck with them, despite all the losing. He deserves the rarity of retiring with the team he was drafted by. If the Bills can make it to the Super Bowl, he deserves to be a part of it if he’s able to play long enough to see it thought to fruition.
