Denver Broncos: 5 Players to watch at 2018 Senior Bowl
By Bruce Matson
As 2018 NFL Draft prospects show off their goods at the Senior Bowl, the Denver Broncos should keep an eye on these five players.
The Denver Broncos coaching staff made the trip to Mobile, AL to evaluate the talent at the Senior Bowl. This is very important for the franchise, because it allows the talent evaluators to get an up-close look at the players and determine whether they could be a fit for the Broncos.
What are the Broncos going to do at quarterback this offseason? Are they going to pickup a new signal caller in free agency? Or are they going to take a chance on one of these young quarterbacks in the draft. Quarterback is their biggest need and the franchise won’t be able to move forward until they find their franchise quarterback.
Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas are not getting any younger and the team will need to find a replacement for both receivers sooner than later. Although, the draft isn’t stacked with talent at wide receiver, the Broncos could still find a solid wide out in this year’s draft.
The offensive line allowed 52 sacks last year and also allowed opposing defensive lines to create a lot of havoc by controlling the line of scrimmage. If the Broncos are going to spend money in free agency or use their first-round pick on a quarterback, they will need to add talent to the offensive line to maximize the capital spent on the newly acquired quarterback. They have a tremendous need at right tackle and the draft could be a good way of filling this hole. The Broncos will have plenty of time this week to evaluate the offensive tackles at the Senior Bowl.
Tight end is another position of need for the Broncos. They drafted Jake Butt in the fifth-round of last year’s draft, but he missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury. He’s a tight end who is a solid pass protector and can run crisp routes could immensely help the offense.
Even though the Broncos have one of the best defenses in the league, they still need to add talent to the defensive side of the ball to make sure they don’t fall behind the eight ball. Aqib Talib isn’t getting any younger and they would need to add quality depth at the position just in case there was a season altering injury. If the Broncos don’t resign Todd Davis then they will need to find a replacement and the draft might be the best and cheapest way to fill the void.
The Broncos’ coaching staff stumbled upon a great opportunity in coaching the Senior Bowl. They will get a close look at some of the top prospects in this year’s draft, putting them a step ahead of most of the other teams in the league.
