4. Josh Allen, QB – Wyoming

Quarterback is the biggest position of need for the Broncos and Josh Allen is considered one of the most talented quarterbacks in this draft class. If anything, he has been one of the most talked about quarterbacks. You either love him or you hate him, but one thing is clear, Allen has some raw talent and if he can escalate his game to another level then he could eventually develop into a functional starting NFL quarterback.

The Broncos have to weigh all of their options. They might as well take a look under the hood while they are at the Senior Bowl. You never know, they might find some characteristics that they like about this kid.

Allen passed for 1,812 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 56.3 percent of his passes. His completion percentage is considered well below average compared to most quarterback prospects. His accuracy and decision making is his main issue. He tends to find difficulty going through his progressions to find the open man. Allen is also very inconsistent. One play he will look like the top quarterback in the nation and the next play he looks like a struggling high school quarterback.

Draft analyst and NFL teams aren’t holding him to a high standard just because they feel like it. Allen does possess some NFL talent. He has a very strong arm which allows him to make all the throws on the football field. He’s also very solid at passing the ball while on the run or rolling out from the pocket. He’s very mobile and has the quickness to avoid the pass rush when necessary. Not all quarterbacks have the athleticism to step away from oncoming blitzers to avoid getting sacked and heave a pass 50 yards downfield to an open wide receiver like Allen can.

Honestly, Denver already has an “Allen” on the roster and his name is Paxton Lynch. During the draft process, Lynch was considered the developmental quarterback prospect who had all the physical tools, just like Allen. The Lynch experiment isn’t working and now the Broncos are in the market to get another quarterback whether it be in free agency or the draft. Allen could develop into a decent quarterback, but Denver might not have the tools to take on another major project at the quarterback position.
