1. Bashaud Breeland, CB

The Jets have two of the best young safeties in the NFL in Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. Now they need help at the cornerback position. Morris Claiborne may leave via free agency and Buster Skrine is coming off a pretty shaky 2017 campaign. Enter Bashaud Breeland of the Washington Redskins.

While the University of Clemson product is not considered an elite cornerback, he’s had a solid four-year career with the Redskins with eight career interceptions, including a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown last season. The 5-11, 195-pounder added 50 tackles and 19 passes defended for Washington and doubles as a kickoff returner. The Jets could certainly use an upgrade on special teams.

The Allendale, SC native’s Calculated Market Value is $6.9 million per year, per Spotrac. That is certainly affordable based on Breeland’s age (26) and ceiling. New York should offer him a four-year, $28 million pact. That would be a huge raise from the $1,797,000 base salary he earned last year.

My plan for Gang Green would be to sign Breeland and draft a cornerback like Iowa’s Joshua Jackson in this year’s NFL Draft. Keep Skrine and Juston Burris as nickel backs and the Jets would be well on their way to assembling one of the best young secondaries in the entire NFL.
