FB/H-Back: Dimitri Flowers (Draft pick)

The Oklahoma Sooner that gets the most attention is Baker Mayfield, and rightfully so, because he’s a quarterback. That said, Flowers may be able to make an impact longer in this league do to the nature of his position(s).

Don’t get me wrong, if Mayfield lasts, his impact will be felt longer, but I don’t believe he will be much more than a backup quarterback in the NFL. So, Flowers will be more of an impact player, especially on the Jets.

The Jets want to run the ball and play good defense. So much so, that they converted a defensive end, Lawrence Thomas, to fullback and had him change his number. That’s why the Jets will draft Flowers and utilize him in a very similar way the Sooners did.

The Sooners lined him up as a lead blocker for three different 1,000-yard rushers in his college career. They also lined him up on the wing and as an in-line tight end. He can lead in the I-formation, or be a blocker and pass catcher in 12-personnel packages. His versatility will allow the Jets to disguise more and be more effective in the running and passing game in 2018 and years to come.
