The Answer to the Broncos Struggles
For whatever reason, John Elway has yet to find a franchise quarterback. While Trevor Siemian was a solid draft pick and adequate starter, he’s proven in his short tenure that he isn’t the answer for the Broncos. Paxton Lynch barely saw the field and it appears that Elway and company doesn’t have the patience to see his development through.
With Kirk Cousins on the market, there’s no reason to believe that Elway wouldn’t try to sign him. After all, they haven’t had a 4,000 yard passer since Peyton Manning back in 2014. No matter how hard Elway has tried, he hasn’t been able to find that missing link under center, but Cousins can be that guy.
The Broncos are in a position where a couple of draft picks can make a huge difference, which can be a selling point for Cousins. After a disappointing 5-11 season, one could argue that Denver is more than a draft away from making the playoffs, but that’s not the case. The defensive side of the ball is loaded with talent, and so is the offense with wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, plus running back C.J. Anderson.
The only glaring need comes up front with the offensive line, and they could use another playmaker at receiver, particularly inside the slot. Both can be addressed early in the 2018 NFL Draft and Cousins will be the first and most important domino to fall. Here are three players the Broncos can draft to insure they become elite again.
