The New York Jets should target Notre Dame running back Josh Adams in the 2018 NFL Draft.

When it comes to the NFL Combine and how it effects NFL Draft stock, look no further than Notre Dame running back Josh Adams. The New York Jets should pay close attention to this player from now until the draft April 26.

When it comes to Combine numbers, many fans will look at 40-yard dash speed. However, for Adams it won’t be the final number that should have fans wowing. It’s the splits. Adams may not time out fast overall, but the final 10 yards of his split will be crucial.

The reason is simple. He’s not like a cannon ball. He’s more like a locomotive that builds speed to a crescendo. Adams is a power back who can bowl over people, then when he’s done doing that get to the second and third level, then wave goodbye to the defenders.

The combination of end of the run speed with power is what makes Adams special. He averages 96 yards after contact per game and 5.6 yards per carry after contact in 2017. Additionally, he had seven runs of 60 yards or more.

Adams has the patience and vision to hit the hole, and once he get there show some burst. Adams wasn’t asked to be a pass-catcher at Notre Dame, as he only had 41 career catches, that’s only a slight ding on his résumé, though. The Jets have Elijah McGuire to be the all-purpose back, and Adams can catch passes, but wasn’t needed to.

The Jets will need to upgrade their offensive line too, because a lot of the success of Adams was due to the giant Notre Dame offensive line with left tackle Mike McGlinchey and left guard Quenton Nelson. Adams has a lot of talent and potential. The Jets will be getting a quality back for their future.
