Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers situation being overblown
By Hunter Noll
The Green Bay Packers made a change to their quarterbacks coach without alerting Aaron Rodgers. It’s not the best situation, but it’s clearly being overblown.
When the Green Bay Packers decided not to bring back quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, it seems like they forget to talk with someone. Their quarterback. Aaron Rodgers was a little upset with the move, and it makes senes. If you’re comfortable with a coach (and you perform well under him), you don’t expect him to not be retained.
Van Pelt has been the QBs coach for the Packers since 2014 (he joined Green Bay as the RBs coach in 2012). While Brett Hundley didn’t light the world on fire last season, Rodgers has been fantastic under Van Pelt. There are two things Rodgers could be upset about. First is that he was happy under Van Pelt and doesn’t want a new coach. Second, he’s just upset that they didn’t even ask him his thoughts on the situation. Of course, it could be a combination of the two.
This isn’t great for the Packers, but it’s getting blown out of proportion. Stephen A. Smith, for example, seemed to think Rodgers needs to pack up and leave. I don’t think it’s going to escalate to that.
Sure, Green Bay hasn’t always surrounded him with the best talent over the years. The decision not to consult him on a QBs coach change was a little odd too. Rodgers hasn’t really seemed to have many problems with the team over the years though. If this was the straw that broke the camel’s back I’d be shocked. There’s been no building of tension to worry about.

Fans of the Green Bay Packers definitely shouldn’t be happy to hear their star quarterback isn’t happy. Aaron Rodgers is an adult though, one disagreement probably won’t throw him into a spiral of temper tantrums culminating to his departure from the team. Let’s pump the brakes a little bit.
