If the New York Jets want to play aggressive defensively, they will need a physical corner, and the 2018 NFL Draft has plenty of them, including Carlton Davis.

New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles would probably like to blitz more often than they actually did this season, but he didn’t have the personnel on the outside to do so. The 2018 NFL Draft will provide a lot of physical cornerback, and Carlton Davis is the perfect cornerback for the Bowles system.

The combination of Davis and 2017 draftees Marcus Maye and Jamal Adams could provide the Jets with a “Legion of Boom 2.0.” Davis is good at jamming receivers at the line.

He’s not going to get turnovers, like Darrelle Revis. He only had one interception in 2017. That said, he will take a receiver out of the game. Two numbers stood out when assessing the Pro Football Focus Elite Draft Guide: 15.9 and 69.5.

He allowed a 69.5 passer rating on balls targeted in his directions, and he allowed a reception once every 15.9 snaps in coverage. Additionally, Davis only allowed a completion rate of 44.8 percent in 2017.

There’s one thing he will have to clean up, though. It appears that he allows a high percentage of the yards after the receiver catches the ball. Davis allowed 293 total yards, and 42 percent of the yards (122) came after the catch.

That could be an indication of the one knock on him according to Walter Football:

"Davis can also have issues with coverage downfield and deep speed, like many big corners. Some sources believe Davis could end up being a first-round pick, but others aren’t as high on him."

David has the skills to play corner in the Jets system, and he’s exactly what they need. His positive attributes outweigh the one negative knock on him , and the JEts should have no qualms taking him early in the second round.
