For the New York Jets, the journey to hoisting the ever-elusive Lombardi Trophy will be contingent upon how they do in the 2018 offseason.

In 1970, the NFL and AFL merged to start the journey of the NFL we know today. The Boston Patriots, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos would become part of the NFL and form the AFC along with the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Since the merger, the Jets have been able to smell some success and even the Lamar Hunt trophy. However, they’ve yet to make a return trip to the big game. Worsening matters, they’re 0-4 in AFC Championship Games, falling just short with a shot to play on the last day of the season.

The Jets look like they can be on the precipice of big things. 2017 was just a building block year for the franchise. Now, 2018, will have to be another one. It’s a small step on the journey to one day reach the mountain top.

It began with the contract extensions of Todd Bowles and Mike Maccganan. They’re getting another two years to keep continuity and allow them an appropriate time to build the franchise. Now the fun begins. Let’s see the moves the Jets will make in the offseason.
