B.J. Hill is a talented defensive lineman who was a part of the contingent of talented defensive linemen at NC State in 2017. He’s listed as a nose tackle and a 3-4 defensive end by Walter Football. His abilities were on display at the Senior Bowl this year.

He’s a little undersized to play nose tackle in the NFL. That said, Hill showed strength at the Senior Bowl, but what wowed people the most was the athleticism that he showed, and that’s what should have the Jets defensive coaches and Bowles mouths water.

He fits the mold of exactly what they are looking for in a defensive end in their scheme, a slightly larger (comparably speaking to the prototype of today) and athletic end who plays inside. At 6-4, 321 pounds (according to Senior Bowl measurements), Hill fits that mold. He’s strong and athletic and will fit right in at end.

Don’t be discouraged by his low sack total in 2017 at NC State, though. For the Jets, the defensive ends are mean more to be run disrupters than sack artists. The outside linebackers are meant to get the sacks in their scheme, and the sack numbers for the ends will come if the edge rushers do their job. He had 5.5 tackles for loss and three batted passes in 2017.
