New York Jets: 2018 Offseason predictions, 7-round mock draft, Vol. 2.0
The Jets continue their offensive line rebuild here. This pick, though isn’t for a starting offensive linemen. It’s to add depth to the line with a player who can play multiple positions. The Jets offensive line was terrible in 2018. They allowed 176 pressures, and 101 from the interior. According o Football Outsiders, attempted 42 of their runs up the middle in 2017. Despite this, they were ranked 29th in yards per carry the offensive line was responsible for.
Even though he’s been a center for Alabama, Pierschbacher has the skills to play guard., and the Jets drafted Isaiah Wynn to play guard, but he’s played tackle in his college career. So, when the Jets want to play their Jumbo package, they can insert Pierschbacker and play Wynn and Solder on the outside.
Pro Football Focus Elite gave PIerschbacher a Pass Blocking Efficency rating of 98, allowing only seven pressures (two sacks, three QB hits, and two hurries). So, even if they wanted to run play action out of that formation, he’d be good for that as well. Adding depth is key in these round, and adding quality depth makes it even better.
