New York Jets should look south on how to soar to Super Bowl
The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII, and the New York Jets need to use their model of roster building if they want to play in the Big Game.
According to many, the 2018 NFL Draft class is said to be as good at quarterback as the famed 1983 class, it doesn’t mean the New York Jets need to trade up to get one, nor should they select one at No. 6 overall. What they need to do is watch the Super Bowl and look at the Eagles roster.
When you look at the Eagles Super Bowl roster, 13 of the 22 starters on offense and defense were drafted by the Eagles. The most important fact is that 11 of them were drafted from 2007-15. All of them before Carson Wentz.
Two of those player were selected in the same draft as Wentz. Additionally, two of their free agent signings we signed before Wentz was brought in with the second-overall pick. That means 59 percent of the team’s starters were there before or in the same year as Wentz’s rookie season.

The Eagles didn’t get their franchise quarterback and then build a team around him like most teams try to do. They had the patience to build their roster, and then when the time came, add the franchise quarterback to it. That when the Jets need to do.
The franchise quarterback has eluded the Jets for decades. That said, they should rush the roster building just for one player. They can add free agents and draft picks and build chemistry among them this year. Give Christian Hackenberg another shot at becoming the team’s starting quarterback, and if that doesn’t work, do what the Eagles did. Trade up and get their guy in 2019.
