The New Orleans Saints needs another great young wide receiver. Instead of waiting to draft one, the team should turn to free agency instead.

Heading into the 2018 season, the New Orleans Saints have multiple needs. While a pass rusher is their biggest need, the Saints also need a solid wide receiver. With Willie Snead’s down season, most of the catches went to Michael Thomas or Alvin Kamara, but they should try to target a wide receiver in free agency.

The Saints have always been a passing team. Despite having a solid running game this year, they were still a huge passing threat. At age 39, Drew Brees is still playing at a relatively high level, so the team needs someone who will have good chemistry with him and also be able to make those key plays.

Looking at the pending free agents for this upcoming season, the Saints have a lot of options at wide receiver. After signing Ted Ginn Jr. last season, they need to pick someone who has a bright future ahead of them and not someone who will last only a season or two.

The biggest name of them all has to be Jarvis Landry. Landry has spent the last four seasons with Miami Dolphins and became one of the best in the league. Unfortunately for him, he has been plagued by poor quarterback play and poor coaching. It’s time Landry moves on to a team who has a chance at winning a championship.

There’s a huge case to be made for Landry heading to New Orleans. He’s only 25 years old, still a huge threat to defenses and an athletic guy. He’s known for making plays to get the extra yards and, after Snead’s downfall, would be a great asset to the team.

The other big name the Saints should try to target is Allen Robinson. Robinson, like Landry, has spent his career up to this point with one team. Robinson’s time with the Jacksonville Jaguars has been marred by injury and poor quarterback play. Maybe it’s something with Florida teams.

Either way, Robinson has still been productive. Robinson, who is only 24 years old, has been great in the red zone and could help fill the void left by Snead. The only downside to Robinson is the torn ACL he’s currently rehabbing.

With all these free agency options, something still looms over the Saints and that’s Drew Brees’ contract. The Saints will likely sign him to a one- or two-year deal, but everything else depends on when and if it happens. Basically, everything for the Saints funnels back to Drew Brees.

Regardless of how good these two free agents look on paper, it will all come down to how much money they’re willing to spend. If they can cut a deal with Brees and relieve a little bit of their cap, the Saints should be in good shape. Even if they can’t, their cap is still good compared to other teams and they’ll have to gamble on draft picks.
