The New York Giants will select second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, but which prospects should they steer clear of come April 26?

It’s only the third time since 2000 that the New York Giants are selecting in the top 10 of the NFL Draft. Many fans want them to take a quarterback to be the heir apparent to Eli Manning, and that may be a good choice.

That doesn’t mean every one of the picks available is a good one for the future, especially if they want to be playing for the Lombardi Trophy again.

Let’s examine the picks they should avoid.

3. Josh Allen

Some mock drafts have Allen going No. 1 to the Browns. And, frankly, the Giants should take Josh Rosen if he’s available. What if the Browns take Rosen? The Giants need to fight the urge to take Allen.

In 1998, there was a kid out of Washington State with the same physical tools as Allen. He was tall, had a strong arm, and mobile for his size. Some even thought he would go No. 1 to the Colts, but Ryan Leaf ended up going No. 2 to the Chargers, and the rest is history.

Even though he doesn’t present the same temperament problems as Leaf, Allen does present the same inconsistency and inaccuracy problems. He has huge bust potential, and isn’t worth the risk to take at No. 2.
