Jacksonville Jaguars: Removing tarps, new uniforms all good news
By Larry Brake
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced the removal of the stadium tarps and other good news about the future of the organization.
Since 2005, the Jacksonville Jaguars had tarps covering whole seating sections. A deal was made to remove them for the playoff game against Buffalo. Apparently, the tarps are now officially a thing of the past.
According to Ryan O’Halloran of Jacksonville.com, he discusses the team’s news release:
"“It’s been on our radar for a long time,” Jaguars president Mark Lamping said during a 30-minute interview with the Times-Union in his stadium office. “And it’s really a tribute to the fans more than us.“ Introduced in 2005 as a way to limit the frequency of local television blackouts, the tarps quickly developed into a national punchline during the infrequent times the Jaguars were discussed."
Since Shad Khan inherited the tarps on the stadium, he need to be praised for removing them. While some owners meddle, Khan trusts the ones that he has hired to run the team. The Jaguars are building off the successful 2017 season.
Most of all, more available seats will add to the home crowd atmosphere. According to O’Halloran:
"The addition of 3,501 seats will bring the Jaguars’ new capacity to 69,132."
Jacksonville also announced that the Jaguars would wear new uniforms this season. The hideous helmets will be replaced. Hopefully, the Jaguars will be sporting teal jerseys at home. The Jaguars have worn black helmets since the franchise started play. In 2013, the gold was added to the black helmet making the ugly two color design. Wonder if Jacksonville will wear a white helmet due to the hot Florida sun?

Let’s hope the Jaguars don teal jerseys this season. Imagine a teal jersey with white numerals trimmed with black. Gold should be used to highlight not be a prominent color.
Finally, some concession items will be reduced to $5. New fans, new uniforms and great food is the recipe for a great 2018 season. Can’t wait!
