New York Jets: 7-Round 2018 mock draft in mid-February
Keke Coutee’s NFL.com draft profile says his best NFL comparison is John Brown. For Jets fans though, his best comparison is actually Santana Moss. He’s a small, quick, and speedy receiver who can beat coverage guys deep easily. In today’s option route NFL, his quickness in and out of breaks would help him get open, especially if teams use him in the slot, like they should early on.
Another thing that makes him valuable is his ability on special teams. Like their pick in the previous round, the Jets do need to focus on field position. With their quarterback situation where it is, the Jets will need a return man who can put the Jets in good field position where they don’t have to go far to score points. In limited duty, Coutee averaged 31.5 yards per return on kickoffs.
He does need to be more reliable, though, to be an NFL slot receiver. According to Pro Football Focus Elite, he had a drop rate of 8.9 percent when playing in the slot. That said, with the right coaching, that can diminish over time, and he can become more reliable. All of his talent makes him a fit for the Jets offensive rotation and a good special teams player.
