After two trades in 2017, the New Orleans Saints know a good trade when they see one. In 2018, they should try to execute at least one deal.

The 2017 season was full of plenty of transactions by the New Orleans Saints. Some of their most-talked-about moves have been their trades. Before the regular season even began, they dealt away their star wide receiver, Brandin Cooks, shocking fans. Eventually, they would also deal Adrian Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals. But will 2018 contain any blockbuster trades?

Looking at the Cooks trade, no one could have predicted that. He was easily their biggest offensive playmaker and one of Drew Brees’ favorite targets. Most of all, he was the cornerstone for their huge pass offense but the acquired draft pick helped solidify their offensive line.

As for the Peterson trade, the verdict is still out. Currently, the Saints are winning as they still have Alvin Kamara and a future draft pick. Looking ahead to 2018, there are a few options for blockbuster trades or at least, shocking trades.

Drew Brees is easily the biggest question mark headed into the offseason. Fortunately for him, he has a no-trade clause so there’s no way that could happen. Despite Brees not being a target, the Saints could choose to deal with Willie Snead. Snead had a down season this year and an easy trade target this upcoming season.

Snead was poised for a breakout season, but it didn’t pan out. After a DUI arrest and resulting suspension, Snead couldn’t get back into the groove. Regardless, he’s still a decent receiver and an ideal candidate for the trading block.

The Saints could look at dealing with the Bears, 49ers or Packers. If they do deal Snead to either of these teams, it could beef up their defense. After the mistake in Minnesota, there’s no reason why they couldn’t take the plunge.

Moving to the defensive side of the ball, it’s hard to pinpoint a specific player. One name that stands out is Vonn Bell. This would be a Cooks-level trade as Bell had a productive year and was one of the top players on defense.

The Saints also have Kenny Vaccaro and Marcus Williams, too. Safety is one position they’re stacked at so why not try the trade block? Unlike Snead, trading Bell would garner a lot of interest including a first- or second-round pick or possibly a player in exchange.

A possible deal could be reached with the Washington Redskins, Steelers or Texans. Thankfully, all of these teams are full of talented guys so the Saints could be picking up some quality guys at a good price.

Of the two trades, Snead is a bigger possibility. Then again, the Saints have never been predictable when it comes to trades. If 2017 was an indication of what’s to come, then this offseason is going to be exciting.
