Shaquil Barrett, Denver Broncos, Age: 25

Shaquil Barrett is the perfect example of working his tail off to succeed. He went undrafted in 2014. He played his college ball at Colorado State so he went with the hometown Denver Broncos. Barrett spent the 2014 season on the practice squad. He played in every game over the next three seasons, starting 15 games. Nine of those starts came in 2018 when starter Shane Ray got hurt and Barrett stepped in and showed he could be a starter himself.

In 2017, Barrett recorded 36 tackles and 4 sacks, and he forced two fumbles. Additionally, he recorded 43 quarterback pressures. At age 25, Barrett will only get better. Barrett had the advantage of playing opposite megastar Von Miller. Being around Miller, I think, helped his development.

Getting Barrett could be tricky. He is a restricted free agent. That means the Broncos could match whatever offer a team makes for him. Also, Denver expects to give him a qualifying tender offer of a second-round pick. The Bears need to feel Barrett is about to break out before deciding to go after him. The advantage, however, is that you have tape on him and not depend on an unproven rookie in the draft.

Barrett is improving and at 25 he’s entering the prime of his career. He could be an interesting pick should the Bears be interested. However, signing a restricted free agent is rare and the team has to be sure before making that move.
