Avery Williamson, Tennessee Titans, Age: 25

Dick LeBeau is a future Hall of Fame defensive coordinator responsible for some of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ best defenses. He can come up with a scheme to shut down just about every offense.

After the Steelers let LeBeau go, he went to Tennessee. With the Titans, he worked with their 2014 fifth-round draft pick, Avery Williamson. Williamson had been okay in his first two seasons. Once LeBeau got to Tennessee, however, Williamson improved. He’s recorded 90 tackles or more for the last three seasons.

Now, Williamson can go even further with another great coach. Williamson is versatile, being able to play both the inside and outside, something Fangio loves as he moves players around like he’s playing chess. He is quick and agile, moving his body so he could get around or under blockers.

Williamson doesn’t have a high number of sacks yet but looking at his film you see he puts a lot of pressure on quarterbacks. The combination of Williamson and Brian Orakpo was effective on blitz packages. Perhaps a little more coaching up and he’ll finish up plays and get his sack total up. Williamson is also able to cover, improving steadily.

His high football IQ is evident when he drops back. He scans the field and plays like an extra safety. He makes quick decisions and usually finds himself around the ball. He’d be a good addition to the Chicago Bears defense.

These are some free agents who could help the Bears defense. Having them on the field also helps in the development of Floyd. Of course, the front office has a decision to make. They may decide to get a starter through the draft. Also, they must decide on what to do with McPhee.
