The drafting of Davis is perfect timing for the Jets. They need a shutdown corner with his skills, and Davis has the skills needed for the Jets to run the type of game they want to.

Most of the time, the Jets would like to blitz more and play man-to-man behind the blitz. That’s the specialty of Davis. He will us his measureables to make himself a pain for wide receivers. He’s a press-man specialist in the vain of Richard Sherman.

He only had four interceptions in college, but that could be a function of multiple things. He deflected passes rather than intercepting them, and if that’s the case, he will have to show an ability to intercept passes at his pro day or the combine. Another could be not being targeted much.

According to Pro Football Focus Elite, he was only targeted a total of 49 times in 2017. Additionally, he only allowed a reception on one out of every 15.9 targets. That made him one of 62 players in the nation to achieve at least one out of 15 or better. An addition like Davis would certainly help the defense generate more pressure on opposing quarterbacks and help an already ascending secondary.
