Flowers is a perfect example of why the politically correct crowd wants to shed labels in our society. People may look at this pick and ask why the Jets would “waste” a fifth round pick on a fullback. Flowers is much more than the lead blocker that most people think of when they think of a fullback.

Oklahoma did have a 1,000-yard rusher in each of his four seasons that he served as the team’s primary fullback. However, they didn’t line him up at just fullback, and he began to open some eyes around the country. He lined up as an in-line tight end, wingback, and fullback in 2017. This allowed his to set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

The Jets can take advantage of his abilities to play all of those positions like Oklahoma did. That would give their offense an added dimension. It would also open up more play action and passes that were there before, because with him in the game, you can sit on the run or the pass.

Some people will consider the fullback a “dead position” in the NFL. However, a fullback can be much more than the lead blocker of the past days of the fullback, and Flowers proved that with his versatility in Norman.
