2. J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State

The talk of this week was when former Colts general manager Bill Polian said he thinks that Lamar Jackson should switch positions. Here’s what he told Pro Football Talk when asked what position he should to:

"“I think wide receiver. Exceptional athlete, exceptional ability to make you miss, exceptional acceleration, exceptional instinct with the ball in his hand and that’s rare for wide receivers.”"

J.T. Barrett is another quarterback who should switch positions, but not to wide receiver like most quarterbacks who make a position change in the NFL. He should switch to running back, but line up to take snaps in a wildcat-type/RPO play-scheme.

Barrett is a good runner. He’s strong and powerful and can break tackles. At 6-2, 220 pounds, he’s a tough one to bring down. He also can handle short and intermediate passes, but he struggles with deep passes.

Barrett could come in for short yardage situations and line up at quarterback and be used as a power runner or short to intermediate passer with the RPO. It can be an added dimension to the offense and give the Jets options. It can give the new offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, some new ways to be creative rather than stick to script.
